TAIBU Community Health Centre, with support from Prosper Canada, has conducted community-led research to explore how a culturally affirming financial coaching model could be developed for Black Canadians. Their findings highlight systemic barriers, the importance of cultural relevance, and the need for community-driven solutions.
Prosper Canada’s financial empowerment initiative in First Nation communities continues to grow, with 3,518 community members supported in just the first year of its second phase and $12.3 million in new income secured through tax clinics and benefits applications. With deepening partnerships and a culturally tailored approach, the program is building trust, expanding services to 23 new communities, and driving lasting financial stability for Indigenous individuals and families.
Their commitment to community is highlighted by their partnerships with over 100 organizations in Manitoba. In this spirit of innovation and collaboration, SEED Winnipeg is a key part of building the Financial Wellness in First Nations project and is delivering customized in-person FE services and supports within First Nation communities across Manitoba in partnership with Community Financial Counselling Services (CFCS) for tax filing.
