Prosper Canada is an MIT Inclusive Innovation Challenge Regional Finalist!

25 July 2019
Prosper Canada is thrilled to announce our status as a 2019 MIT Inclusive Innovation Challenge (IIC) Finalist – one of 12 regional finalists in the U.S. and Canada and sixty organizations globally. The IIC awards over one million dollars in prizes to future of work entrepreneurs in four categories that holistically represent the solution types necessary to build an economy that works for all in the digital era. Prosper Canada was selected as one of three regional finalists in the Financial Inclusion category.

Finalists will now proceed to five regional events in Toronto, Canada; Mexico City, Mexico; Darmstadt, Germany; Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; and Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Finalists pitch their solutions to a live audience and selection panel of regional innovation leaders for the chance to proceed to MIT on November 21 to vie for $1 million USD.

Prosper Canada was selected for its online Benefits Screening Tool (BST) submission, a financial empowerment intervention designed to help Canadians living on low- and modest incomes, identify income benefits they are eligible for but may not be receiving, and the resources to help them navigate often complex application processes.

“Prosper Canada is pleased to be named as a regional finalist for the MIT IIC. We believe that our Benefits Screening Tool submission exemplifies our commitment to financial inclusion. An estimated $1 billion in government income benefits gets left on the table annually and the BST can help put that money in the pockets of those that need it most. Being a finalist brings us one step closer to making the tool available across Canada.” Elizabeth Mulholland, Chief Executive Officer, Prosper Canada.
