Learners can now participate in the Money Matters financial literacy program online
1 November 2017
ABC Life Literacy Canada has delivered free, accessible financial literacy workshops to communities across Canada since 2011 with its Money Matters program. To date,
over 10,000 learners
have taken part in a workshop. To celebrate this milestone and to reach more learners during November’s Financial Literacy Month, ABC launched Money Matters Online this month, a free self-directed learning tool where learners who may not have access to a community learning centre can undertake the program at their own pace.
Increasing financial literacy and confidence can have a real and far-reaching impact on financial outcomes. While less than half (46 per cent) of Canadians have a budget, 93 per cent of those who do always or almost always stay within it, according to the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada. Research has also found that people with greater financial knowledge and confidence engage in more financial planning for their future, including investing in retirement savings plans and managing their debt better.
To raise the financial well-being of Canadians, especially low-income Canadians and underserved populations, programming that is free, accessible and relevant to their needs, with a focus on building confidence and trust in the financial system is essential.
Money Matters helps learners build confidence in managing their finances. Why not give it a try? You can access Money Matters Online at
