Integration in action: Cities for financial empowerment project
21 April 2017
Prosper Canada is currently supporting the City of Toronto to explore, assess and select opportunities to integrate financial empowerment services within existing municipal program delivery. Through this collaboration, Prosper Canada is working with City of Toronto staff to develop a tailored financial empowerment integration strategy and implementation plan with the goal of supporting people in Toronto to achieve greater financial stability.
Prosper Canada was pleased to provide the keynote address at
Toronto Employment & Social Service’s
(TESS) Financial Empowerment Fair on April 13, 2017 at Edithvale Community Centre. The event brought together staff from TESS’ Family Support Unit and community agencies that provide financial empowerment services such as financial coaching, tax filing, and access to wealth-building products like the RESP.
Event attendees, including Prosper Canada partners North York Community House, SmartSAVER, Agincourt Community Services Association, and Canada Revenue Agency, engaged in a lively conversation about what services currently exist to help improve the financial security of Torontonians living on a low income.
Prosper Canada is excited by the work we are doing with TESS to explore opportunities to integrate financial empowerment services within TESS’ existing programs. The City of Toronto is blazing a trail in the field of municipal financial empowerment integration in Canada. Equally exciting is the capacity that already exists in Toronto with multiple community agencies delivering accessible, high-quality financial counselling and coaching services. As Prosper Canada progresses our planning engagement with TESS, a key component of our work will be identifying ways to strengthen relationships with community agencies to build and enhance their capacity to continue delivery of these critical services.
