Financial Empowerment survey deadline Nov 30th

Attention Canadian financial empowerment practitioners

Dr. Jen Robson, Associate Professor of Political Management, Carleton University is conducting research on the community programs and services that can financially empower vulnerable Canadians. This research is part of a larger study on the financial lives of low income Canadians, including financial diaries, led by Dr. Jerry Buckland at the University of Winnipeg, and with Dr. Gail Henderson at Queen’s University and Dr. David Rothwell at Oregon State University. The research is funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council and includes representatives of the Asset Building Learning Exchange (ABLE). We very much hope that you will complete a short survey.

 

Survey goal
 

The goal of this survey is to describe the practice of financial empowerment from the perspective of the organizations themselves. Practitioners are a diverse group and we hope to better understand the community to be able to inform policy-makers, funders and other researchers.
 

This survey asks about the services and mission of your organization, not the personal views of your staff. As such it is not anonymous. However, results from this survey will only be reported in aggregate because we are aiming to describe the community of practice, not the work of any one organization. We have taken care to make sure the questions are neutral just ask you to describe your organization in the same way you might to a funder. But, if, at any time, you are uncomfortable responding to a particular question, you can move ahead to the next question. 
 

One response per organization
 

We would appreciate receiving only one (1) response from each organization. The survey takes just 10 minutes or less to complete.
 

Complete the survey
 

When information is transmitted over the internet, privacy cannot be guaranteed. There is always a risk that your organization’s responses may be intercepted by a third party (e.g. government agencies or hackers). However, the survey provider, Survey Monkey, encrypts data being transmitted through the web page.  Only members of the research team will have access to records, and these will be password protected. Note that Survey Monkey stores data on servers which may be in the United States and therefore subject to U.S. privacy laws. All answers will be stored online on the Survey Monkey site until the close of the survey period at the end of November.  After that, the research team will download the data, delete it from Survey Monkey and store it on a password-protected computer at Carleton University. This data will be retained for the duration of this project, until 2022. 

 

By completing the survey, you provide your consent for your organization’s answers to be retained and used by the project researchers. However, results from this study will only report on aggregated grouped answers data, not individual organizations.

 

The results of the survey will be posted online at https://carleton.ca/politicalmanagement/people/jennifer-robson/  where you will be able to download a copy of the research report.

 

This project has been reviewed and received clearance by the Research Ethics Board at Carleton University (Project #109160, expiry date July 31, 2019).
