PM addresses poverty in mandate letters
1 February 2016
On November 13, 2015, the new Liberal federal government mandate letters were released and for the first time ever, publicly communicated to the Canadian public. Through the letters, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau assigned each of his newly-appointed cabinet ministers with specific priorities and key goals for their respective portfolios over the next four years.
What is particularly encouraging from these letters is an emphasis on addressing poverty and with this, an increased focus on low-income and vulnerable groups in Canada. A number of policy area commitments within Trudeau’s directives have the potential to measurably improve the financial wellbeing and inclusion of individuals and families living in poverty.
We invite you to
view highlights
from the federal mandate letters that are particularly relevant in helping to achieve the goal of meeting the financial needs of vulnerable Canadians.
