Our new report shows that access to relevant, high-quality financial help and advice is associated with greater financial health and resilience, but not all Canadians have access to the financial help and advice they need. Canadians with low incomes are frequently unable to access the types of help they need to build their financial capability, maximize their incomes, tackle urgent financial problems, and set and pursue financial goals.
2023
Prosper Canada welcomes the 2023 Ontario provincial budget. Ontario has been a leader in investing in on-the-ground financial help services for people with low and moderate incomes. We continue to encourage the Ontario government to continue to invest in, enhance and expand critically needed community financial help services.
2023
Prosper Canada is pleased to see new government initiatives to help support vulnerable Canadians such as automatic tax-filing, the Grocery Rebate and the expansion of the dental benefit. These, along with important financial consumer protection steps are crucial to addressing the issues Canadian families are facing. There are still critical gaps in our social safety net and we encourage the government to support the community sector and work collaboratively with partners in all sectors to advance solutions.
2022
This report provides a call to action for more targeted support from policymakers, financial institutions and community non profit organizations for low-income households and Canadian households who are more financially vulnerable. This is particularly important given inequities, systemic barriers and challenges many of these households face, along with difficulties in accessing financial help.
